Prof Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz receives NIH award

Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz, Bren Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at Caltech and Professor at the University of Cambridge, is a recipient of an NIH Director's Pioneer Award this year. The NIH Director's Pioneer Award,

The NIH Director's Pioneer Award, established in 2004, "challenges investigators at all career levels to pursue new research directions and develop groundbreaking and high-impact approaches to a broad area of biomedical, behavioral, or social science."

Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz studies the processes that guide early embryonic development to understand what happens during the first few weeks of human life after an egg is fertilized. Recently, she and her team discovered how very young embryos conduct quality control on the cellular level to ensure the health of the whole embryo. She also studies the processes that guide early embryonic development.
