This artistic rendering of the city map of Barcelona depicts the contrasting chaotic street layout in the Medieval Old City with the structured grid of the 19th century Eixample district. The transition between these two districts represents the shift from stochastic to stereotypic transcription brought about by enhancer priming. To learn more about how enhancers detect and respond to Notch signaling in real time in vivo see Falo-Sanjuan et al.
