How to Apply
WHO CAN APPLY?
We are happy to consider applications from anyone with a suitable first degree.
HOW MANY PLACES ARE THERE ON THE PROGRAMME, and ARE OTHER PhDs AVAILABLE?
Only six places are offered on the Wellcome Trust 4-year Programme in
Developmental Biology each year. If you wish to apply for an alternative PhD
project in Cambridge, please contact potential PhD supervisors directly.
WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
There is a single round of admissions each year, with admissions opening on 15th
November 2011. The deadline for applications this year is Friday, 6th January
2012. We are unable to consider applications at other times of the year. Details
of how to apply will be available from this page on 15th November.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete both the Developmental Biology PhD Programme Online
Application (see below), and the University Graduate Student Application
Form (GRADSAF); using the following information:
Course code: BLPNM2
Programme of study or research area: MPhil in Developmental Biology
(4yrs)
Department: Dept of Phys, Dev & Neuro
Final Award: PhD
Duration: 1+3 Years
Overseas applicants (generally this means non-EU students, but you should check your status). You must submit the University Graduate Student Application Form (GRADSAF) by Friday, 2nd December, 2011 in order to be eligible for additional funding that covers tuition fees at the 'overseas' rate.
We will approach your referees for references in addition to those requested on GRADSAF. Your references for the programme must reach us by Friday, 6th January 2012.
WHAT FUNDING DOES THE PROGRAMME PROVIDE TO SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS?
The programme covers a generous living allowance that is considerably greater
than the University's estimated maintenance costs, and fees for students
at the 'home' rate.
WHEN WILL INTERVIEWS BE HELD?
Shortlisted candidates from EU countries will be asked to come to Cambridge for
interview on the 23rd and 24th January 2012. Other applicants may have a telephone
interview on Friday, 20th January 2012. Shortlisted candidates will be notified
about interviews on Saturday, 14th January 2012.
