The
CMB Group aims to bring together people interested in computer modelling
and simulation of biological systems in Cambridge University.
We aim to:
-
Share ideas and solve common problems
There are many isolated pockets of research throughout
the University involved in computer modelling and simulation. Though many
different biological systems are being studied, the underlying principles
and methods are similar.
-
Resource for new research groups
Individuals new to computer modelling can attend
our meetings and form productive relationships instead of trying to find
their way in the dark.
-
Promote computer modelling
Without any central computational biology department
in the University, computer modelling is often ignored by biologists. Advertisements
for future meetings will hopefully encourage some to investigate what they
have been missing.
The scope of the group has been made deliberately vague.
However, there are several things the group is not:
-
It is not a general computational biology group; there
must be some modelling perspective.
-
It is not a computer modelling group; there must be
strong ties to a biological system.
-
It is not a pure mathematical biology group. Though
many aspects of mathematical biology are relevant and overlap considerably,
the use of computational modelling is foremost. There are a few other groups
in the University aimed at specific areas of mathematical biology.
