General Information

The Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience is the result of a recent merge between the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology. See also entries for the Anatomy building and the Craik-Marshall building.

Smoking

No smoking anywhere in the building.

Medical facilities

Two first aiders in the building, and first aid kits located around the building.

Emergency procedures

Evacuation chairs fitted. Fire evacuation details and other safety notices are given to all visitors.

Physical Access

Entrances

Level access to main entrance. Level access to back entrance into lift lobby, through automatic doors.

Number of floors

Nine levels in building, including half levels.

Lifts and stairs

Large passenger lift and wheelchair lift enable access to all floors, although some electric wheel chairs could be problematical so please check with Department before-hand.

Lecture theatres

Two steps up from main entrance to top of theatre. Wheelchair lift allows level access to bottom of theatre, with room for wheelchairs. Tiered bench seating, with wooden steps and no handrails.

Seminar/teaching rooms

All seminar rooms and most laboratories in the building accessible by lift.

Library

Wheelchair lift and passenger lift enable level access to library, through wide door. Carpeted inside, with plenty of workspace. Aisles are narrow and shelves are high, but staff will help.

Computer facilities

Computers available for use by Part 2 students in library, with level access from lift and plenty of space.

Toilets

Disabled toilets on C and H floors, accessible by lift.

Common rooms

Tea room for staff and Part 2 students, accessible by lift.

Assistance dogs welcome.

Computer facilities

Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.

Large print, Braille and audio

Large print information on prior request.

Library and magnification equipment

Photocopier available.

Signs and wayfinding

Good, clear signs, but the building itself is rather complicated.
