Research Interests

During my thesis work I studied the structure and function of different members of the potassium channel family such as Kir and K2P channels. I demonstated the presence of the state dependent gating network of the Kir 1.1 Channel. In K2P channels, I identified the location of the primary gate and  the polymodal gating mechanisms of the TREK1 channel.

At present, my focus of the study is to understand the visual phototransduction mechanism in fruit flies. The phototransduction mechanism is mediated via G-protein signalling results in the opening of the TRP channels followed by the calcium influx. but so far how TRP channels are opening remian unknown. I am particularly interested in deciphering the activation pathways as well as the gating mechanisms of the TRP channels in Drosophila Photoreceptors.
